iPollinate aims at Intelligent Pollination for Sustainable Increases in Crop Yields and Global Food Security. Honeybee colonies provide most insect pollination services to agriculture. A precision pollination service would allow farmers to improve pollination efficiency and crop yields. The EU-funded iPollinate project proposes a unique Internet of Things (IoT) sensor that supplies real-time monitoring of the foraging rate of honeybees used for pollination services. The aim of this approach is to increase crop yield by 30 % and improve quality and nutritional value. The data collected will be compared with hive strength and health data using machine learning techniques, to allow precision in pollination services. The project will hasten the development and adoption of an innovative business model for pollination services empowered by unique IoT sensor technology and advanced data analytics.
